Parish Family Carnival30 Aug 2015, by Events in
As part of our parish preparation for the celebration of the yearly harvest thanksgiving, the parish organized a family carnival today (August 30) to bring every family in the parish together in celebration. The family remains vital to the Church, it is the first place where the faith of the Church is taught. If families are united and strong, then the Church as a family will be United, and in fact the world will be a better place. The family carnival provided the opportunity for families to come together and celebrate.
Harvest thanksgiving has come to stay in the Catholic Church, particularly in the Nigerian Church, even though it is sometimes confused for just fund raising by many. We cannot deny the fact that raising funds for the Church is part of it, but if the hearts and minds of the people of God are not raised in thanksgiving to God, in vain they give. God said; You shall keep the feast of harvest, of the first fruits of your labor, of what you sow in the field. You shall keep the feast of ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in from the field the fruit of your labor (Ex. 23:16).
The family carnival was a huge success; the sound of music, the beautifully decorated hall and all the smiles and laughter tells the story of the great performances from different quarters.
The familiar African drums sounded again in the parish and the appropriate dance steps followed. Comedians were at hand to make the people laugh, especially the guest comedian popularly known as “Aboki for Christ.”
We pray God to continue to keep the family of Our Lady of Lourdes parish together in one mind and heart as we look forward to celebrate the harvest thanksgiving proper by October.
