The Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes on February 11. This feast commemorates the Blessed Virgin Mary’s apparition to Bernadette Soubirous on the 11 of February 1858. That apparition in Lourdes, a village in France, began a series of Virgin Mary apparitions to Bernadette. Messages were given to her for the world. Today (11 February), the whole Church celebrates Mary, the Mother of God. We give glory to God for the gift of Mary and continuously ask for her intercessions.
The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Orile, Lagos, Nigeria especially celebrates this feast. It all began with the Holy Mass concelebrated by the Priests working in the Parish and the Parishioners. The social aspect of the celebration kicked off after the Holy Mass at the multi-purpose hall of the Church. The people sang and danced to the glory of God; the celebration had a touch of the rich heritage of the African culture. It was a family feast as they all had something to eat and drink.
We continue to thank God for his love and mercies; we also continue to call on Our Lady of Lourdes to pray for us sinners.
